This picture was taken in February 2006 in Southwold, England, on the coast of the North Sea. These colorful little buildings were so pretty, despite the freezing day--it was something like 1C and that was before the wind chill! I swear, this Texas girl has never been so cold in my life.

Are they like sheds or real houses? Very colorful and makes a great picture.

Thanks for visiting me. I am not totally sure what the flowers are called but I think you are correct.

the colour of the buildings provides a nice contrast against the sea. THAT looks rather uninviting

I love the colors.

If the waves get much higher those are going to be houseboats. LOL!

I luuuurrrve those kinds of little row houses. Make mine turquoise, please. My mom has an expression that they typify perfectly though. "Living close enough to pee into your neighbor's window."

Happy WW!

Great picture!
The water looks like it is getting close to the colorful cute little houses.

Those are pretty cool little cottages. They look kinda helpless should there be a hurricane though. Do they get hurricanes in England? Happy WW!

It's so colorful and uniform and colorful. Great shot. Can't see the cold, but I'll take your word for it!

You could do some serious roof hoping over here. Looks so much like play houses.

love the contrast in colors from the sheds against the surf and the beach. Reminds me to wish for summer soon.

Those are so cute! They look like they have porches, too. I wonder if people sit out on them and watch the water. Looks like a great place to spend some "alone" time.

Oh, it wasn't that cold. you just needed more cider.

The little houses are beach huts--they're really just little wooden structures, I think they have water and electricity but there are byelaws that you can't spend the night in them. They're just somewhere to get out of the weather when you're at the beach--which should tel you something about English seaside habits.

They nearly all have names, and they're quite ludicrously expensive. Like, you could buy an actual house for the same price. Which figures in Southwold, which is sometimes called Kensington on Sea.

Oh, and on that particular day? There was someone surfing just up the beach. Sea was like a millpond and probably a few degrees below freezing. Even I thought he was crazy.

And don't forget the wackos buying ice cream. ICE CREAM! Talk about insanity.

What's wrong with ice cream in
February? Mmm, ice cream...

I guess I missed you yesterday....beautiful photo!

What's wrong with ice cream in Feb? Nothing... if you're here. In TEXAS. However, if you have to unwrap three scarves, take off two pairs of gloves, and remove your balaclava before you can enjoy your Super Choco Pop? You are certifiably In-Frickin-Sane to want the thing.

You notice, Cat, that despite my own admittedly high level of insanity, even I didn't go there. No no. Freezing treats are for hot days, hot treats--such as irish coffee--are for cold days. Geez, we have to tell you Brits everything...

The only conceivable problem is getting ice cream on your gloves, no? Which is why God invented the washing machine. I dunno, we have to tell you Yanks everything...
